Inclinometry and Pointing with Shims on the track

In May 1995 we placed shims of thickness 102m at strategic locations across the track and made inclinometry and pointing measurements as the wheels went over them. This was designed to yield directly the tilts of the A-frames and the ensuing pointing errors and to test the assumptions of rigid geometry described above, without pushing the antenna over bumps it does not normally encounter anyway.

A detailed document on the analysis of the Pointing with Shims experiments is available from IMC.
