CANSERV

Canadian Service Time (or CANSERV) is the best kept un-secret of the JCMT. It is designed for projects which would normally qualify for regular observing time but require a shift or less, for rapid response to new discoveries, for completing regular programmes which were weathered out, and for more speculative projects which would be unlikely to receive regular observing time. Since the observations are done by HIA staff for the observer, these projects should be observationally straightforward. CANSERV is scheduled at various times throughout the semester, and announcements, calls for proposals, and a shortened proposal form are circulated electronically (see .1).
