850um       &       450um
-
The contour intervals are
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 75% of peak at 850um and
- 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 25, 50 and 75% of peak at 450um.

This star is clearly extended both at 850 and
450um.

IRC+10216 is variable with a period of ~635 days - see plot below.
It had a phase of 0.6 (minimum flux) on July 14, 1998.
The 850/450 data in the
table (6.12Jy, 13.1Jy) are from Dec
97,
while data from March/April 1998 give S(850) ~ 5.7 Jy/beam.
It is also extended at 850 micron because of its unsually large
and bright CO envelope, but can be observed without problems with a chop
throw of 60" or larger.
It is well known that IRC+10216 is extended, yet there are few
maps obtained with a 120" chop throw. The results in the
table
are based on 3 maps from December 1997. At 850 micron it has a deconvolved
FWHM of 8.9" in good agreement with old UKT14 results. Fainter,
halo-type emission
is also clearly seen. A rough estimate of the halo emission
predicts 3.4 Jy within a 30" radius and 6 Jy within a 60" radius.
At 450 micron the corresponding values are 10.0 Jy and 14.5 Jy repspectively.
The dust emission is more compact at 450 micron with a deconvolved FWHM
of about 4.1". For mid December 1998 GS predicted an integrated
850 micron flux (core + halo) of 11.9 Jy and at 450 micron an integrated
flux of 25.8 Jy.
850um light-curve
S(Jy) = 8.8 + 0.95 * sin ( 2*pi * (Y - 1999.125) / 1.74)
gives the 850um flux as a function of decimal year.
