Associate Director's Letter to PIs of Successful Proposals
30 November 2007
Dear Colleague,
As Associate Director JCMT, I write to congratulate you on the
award of telescope time. I recognise that the allocation of time
to your project is the result of considerable effort on your
part, not only in preparing and writing the proposal, but also
in the perception and development of the scientific
rationale. It is my goal to ensure that only the weather can
prevent a successful and productive observing run.
Your allocation in semester 08A can be viewed at the URL:
http://www.jach.hawaii.edu/JCMT/allocations/08a-allocations.html
In addition to the amount of time awarded to your project, this web page
lets you know the name your "Friend of the Project" (FoP). Please contact
your FoP for any information or assistance you may need with respect to your
project.
Complete instructions for observing on the JCMT in semester 08A are
provided at this URL:
http://www.jach.hawaii.edu/JCMT/observing/PI_procedures.html
These instructions are required reading for all PIs, and for co-Is who
will be participating in the preparation or carrying out of observations.
This web page contains information that is important for
you, as Principal Investigator, to enable your observations to be undertaken
successfully. Please read it carefully and act on the instructions
provided.
Over the next few weeks, the telescope scheduler (Gerald Schieven) will be
preparing the 08A schedule. Because of the uncertainty in the arrival date
of SCUBA-2, the schedule for each month will likely only be prepared 1-2
months in advance. You will be contacted if your project is scheduled on
the telescope. (Note that a listing on the allocations web page above
does not necessarily mean that your project will appear on the
schedule.) In the meantime, please be patient! If you have questions
regarding the schedule, please contact your FoP, or the the telescope
scheduler.
A new version of the JCMT Observing Tool (jcmtot) is expected to be
released soon, and you will be informed when it is available for
download. Please use that version to create and submit your observing
program (MSBs) when it comes available. For information on the jcmtot
and creating MSBs, please see
http://www.jach.hawaii.edu/software/jcmtot/, and/or consult with your
FoP. It is to your advantage to install your MSBs early.
Please note that it is your responsibility as PI to ensure that your
collaborators are familiar with the information contained in these notes,
since this letter is not being copied to them.
I wish you all the very best with your observing.
Kindest Regards,
Antonio Chrysostomou
Associate Director JCMT
