Initial Notes

Principal investigators of each observing programme should read these notes after their observing time is scheduled. For PIs coming to the telescope, the notes provide instructions regarding arranging accommodations and transportation in Hawaii for the observing team and gives basic information on mountain procedures, data handling, and other issues.

Visitor Info

Detailed visitor notes. These notes are particularly useful for first-time observers at JCMT, but procedures may change so please take a look. This page also contains a list of hotels in Honolulu, in case you need accommodation there, and Hilo and Kona. PDF maps for observers of: the Big Island, Hilo, Hale Pohaku, and the summit of Mauna Kea.

Reservations
The new JAC reservation request form must be sent to JAC by each observer planning to attend the observing run. Please complete ALL sections - your arrival time in Hilo is important so that we can properly schedule your travel between JAC and the Mauna Kea Residence. If you encounter any problems with this form, please fax this text form

Medical
A signed medical disclaimer must be sent to JAC. No visitor is allowed to be at the summit before signing and returning this form. (For a text-only version, click here. A Word document is available here.)

Acknowledgement

We ask that any JCMT data that is to be published, displayed or in any other way made public be acknowledged using this standard form of words.

Safety rules and guidelines.
Safety is taken very seriously at the JAC/JCMT. We  ask that you take a few minutes to look over the guidelines posted here. Please abide by these rules; your safety and the safety of others may depend on it.
