In 2005, JCMT was the subject of an international review of the
telescope's
current operations and strategic future. The review panel, chaired by
Prof. M. Harwit, produced a substantial and positive final report and
recommendations. This report and the response of the JCMT Board are
posted below.
One of the chief recommendations of the panel was the scientific
potential of SCUBA-2 and the scope and expected impact of the planned
Legacy programs justify the extension of JCMT operations until
2012. Following a positive response from PPARC in May 2006, all three
partners are currently in the process of seeking such an extension.
