The JCMT Newsletter is the official publication of the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. It is available in html format on the JCMT homepage of the World Wide Web and also as a paper magazine.

Contributions are solicited from recent observers, instrument builders and from the staff at the Joint Astronomy Centre.

The manuscript is collated, edited and formatted using Word for Windows 6.0 on a pc at the Joint Astronomy Centre. The World Wide Web version is constructed from the Word document using the processor described later. Printing of the magazine is by the Hilo Bay Printing Company in Hilo, a commercial printing establishment. Thanks to Don Reilly and his staff for the printed version.

Distribution of the printed Newsletter is via a mailing list held at the Joint Astronomy Centre (distribution within Canada is to all those on a mailing list held at the Herzberg Institute for Astrophysics).

Articles for The JCMT Newsletter may be submitted to the editor, Graeme Watt, at any time. Please take note of deadlines for specific issues. If you wish to have your name included on the distribution list for the printed version, or if you wish to make any other comments please contact the editor: gdw@jach.hawaii.edu

The JCMT Newsletter is NOT a refereed journal but remains as the voice of the JCMT User community. It is appropriate that the content clearly reflect the state of the observatory, the availability of the instrumentation, and the quality of scientific output obtained. The former two features can be completed by the JCMT staff whilst the latter is primarily up to the user (and reader). Please contribute to your newsletter.

There is no copyright on articles contained in The JCMT Newsletter. However there are times when a figure or diagram is reproduced from a journal with permission. Those intent on using material for whatever purpose are requested to contact the author of their selected article for permission.

The HTML version of The JCMT Newsletter is created by using the ANT_PLUS template to convert the Word for Windows 6.0 master document. The ANT_PLUS template, including ANT_HTML tools, is written by Jill Swift (thanks Jill) and is available as shareware. Interested parties should contact Jill at jswift@freenet.fsu.edu for further details.

The formatting (nice isn't it?) conforms to the JAC standard template devised by Frossie Economou and Tim Jenness, without whose assistance I would never understand how to work this thing!

Ed (aka Graeme)
