JCMT Observing Schedule
Notes
The schedules on
these pages
show the name of the Principal Investigator, the PATT
reference number
of the application and the instrumentation required to complete the primary project.
The PI of the programs thus 'scheduled' is normally responsible for organizing observers
for their shifts.
The coloured backgrounds identify the (national) queues or other activities:
Canadian,
Netherlands,
UK,
International,
E&C,
UH,
DDT,
JLS,
No observing
and others.
Facility instruments available are, or have been:
(Continuum) S = SCUBA Sp = SCUBA polarimeter S2 = SCUBA-2
(Spectral/heterodyne) A = A-band B = B-band C = C-band D = D-band
Xp = heterodyne (X-band) + polarimeter
where X = A, B, C, D
eSMA = extended submillimetre array (SMA + CSO + JCMT)
Visitor instruments are also indicated on the schedule:
spifi = South Pole Imaging Fabry-Perot Interferometer
fts = University of Lethbridge, Canada, Fourier Transform Spectrometer
mpi = Max-Planck-Institut, Bonn, 800 GHz heterodyne instrument
Z = Zeus (CfA)
Th = Thumper (200micron bolometer, Cardiff)
TSSs (telescope Support Specialists) and staff members are identified by initials:
Telescope System Specialists
JCH = Jim Hoge JK = Jonathan Kemp

Other Notation
-
E&C = Engineering and Commissioning; organized, maybe staffed,
by JCMT personnel.
-
FCO = Functional Check-Out . . . of some component or instrument,
usually following major E&C
-
DRAFT - schedule in preparation, awaiting communication with/from
PIs/observers
-
FREEZING.... - schedule agreed; grace period for further consideration.
-
FROZEN (or blank) - The
schedule can only be changed now with the consent of all affected by any requests from observers.
The contents and ordering in this schedule are likely to change at very short notice. All observers should check the
most recent version of this schedule prior to making travel bookings. If in doubt, please contact the Scheduler
first.
DO NOT MAKE ANY TRAVEL BOOKINGS ON THE BASIS OF THIS SCHEDULE WITHOUT CONTACTING THE SCHEDULER FIRST.
There is no guarantee that any instruments other than those requested for undertaking your primary programme will be
available during your run.
Note that:
The normal night-time shift length is currently 12 hours, starting at 19:30 HST,
although some flexibility is available by arrangement with the TSS. No such arrangement
should allow violations of the '14-hour' rule.
Previously, evening shifts ran from 1730 - 0130
while morning shifts ran from 0130 - 0930.
HST dates are shown to the left and right of the night-time schedule.
The corresponding UT date is the one on the right.
Partial shift arrangements are indicated by shorter 'blocks',
although their expected length may not correspond precisely
with the schedule diagram : check with local staff for further details.
- or ask the Scheduler.
The Scheduler is     Iain Coulson
