Standard Spectra for the JCMT
Standard DAS Spectra for the JCMT

There are a number of molecular species (e.g. CO, HCN) which are observed frequently enough that they provide a useful means of monitoring the performance and calibration of our receiver systems. We have a database of such observations in frequently-observed sources, and from these we have selected spectra which appear to have integrated intensities close to the norm. We suggest that all spectral line observers try to observe at least one such standard line per night, and compare it with the "standard" in the catalog.

We have a web based interface to all the DAS spectra of standard sources taken at the JCMT as well as selected examples presented in the tables below.

Show observational details:

Below are tables for each of our receivers showing "standard" spectra for those source/line combinations for which data of sufficient quality exist. In these tables, the most representative "standards" are identified by 3 stars here, and lower quality standards by 2 stars here. Empty spaces indicate where there are insufficient data, or the lines are too weak to be used for the purposes of standard spectra. In due course I would like to replace the empty spaces with "representative spectra".

Receiver B3 -- Spectral Line Standards

Note: B3 is a dual-channel receiver; i.e. it is capable of observing line radiation in orthogonal polarizations. B3 spectra are plotted with channel A shown in green, and channel B in red. Not all frequencies are necessarily covered by both channels. All spectra shown have been obtained in single-sideband mode.
