SPLAT

SPLAT

SPLAT (Spectrum Analysis Tool) is a tool to analyse and display 1-dimensional spectra.
Full information about this tool can be obtained from the SPLAT manual.

It can be started by typing:
> splat filename.sdf

or from GAIA (= GAIA-3d) after clicking on a pixel to extract the spectrum at that position, and then in the window "Display Image sections of a cube" by clicking on Spectrum --> Send :replace (or Send: add)

Options

Some features appear not yet well described in the manual.

Clicking on Options --> Line identifiers --> Load all matching line identifiers shows the velocities (frequencies) of all spectral lines (these are taken from the list in JCMTOT) in the range visible in the plot.
To see lines which are in the image side band one first needs to change the sideband in the plot by clicking on Units (a Current Spectral Units window will appear) and then change the sideband in the pull-down menu at the right side.

Clicking on Options --> Display synopsis will show information about the spectrum in the plot window.

Clicking on Options -> Only Display spectra within axes will remove the part of the spectrum outside the box from the plot.
