JSOC - JCMT Surveys Oversight Committee

The role of the JSOC is to monitor the progress of the survey programme via feedback from the survey coordinators and the observatory as well as formulating the policies under which the Legacy programme operates and advising how these should be implemented. All these policies are considered and approved by the JCMT Board.

The JSOC interfaces with the community via well defined channels. Any member of a survey should, in the first instance, approach their survey coordinators and/or survey managers. If the survey coordinators or managers are not able to deal with the matter then they in turn should approach the Associate Director, JCMT with their query. If the matter remains unresolved, then the Associate Director can then involve the JSOC.

In most cases, it is envisaged that general queries and issues will be handled internally within the survey teams. Operational aspects are dealt with by the Associate Director, and the JSOC will usually only consider items of policy and procedure.

All policies and procedures with respect to the surveys are overseen on behalf of the JCMT Board by the JSOC.
