Craig reports that examination of the SMU during the past week revealed one missing vibrator 'boot' (on one of the N-S vibrators) and the other 3 in various stages of decrepitude. The SMU is understandably vulnerable to undamped oscillations. The boots need replacing and complementing by 'proper' damping mechanisms (Tim Chuter). This requires removal of SMU to observing floor level - a procedure currently scheduled for October.
