Relative pointing between RxB & RxW_D established
Some observing programs, especially those using RxW in the north
at RA of approximately 10hrs, suffer from a distinct paucity of
strong local pointing sources. The technique adopted is to
point with another instrument and use established offsets
between the Front Ends to correct the pointing from one FE to another.
However, the relative pointings themselves have not been particularly
well-established in the past, and must be redetermined whenever a FE is
adjusted. Additionally, these circumstances arise infrequently enough that
the capability to do this work is often left until the need is great.
Such was the case in January 2001, but the effort was made to align
SCUBA, RxB and the D-band mixer of RxW. It seems
worth recording for posterity that the results were deemed sufficiently
satisfactory by the observer to warrant this comment in her nightly
report :
4) DETAILED NOTES (Optional)
Differential pointing for RxW/RxB3 seems to be working extremely well.
Repeated what had been done before (mars: RRP/KGI OMC-1: IMC/JH)
and got very reproducible results.
It is to be hoped that well-determined relative pointing can be
maintained henceforth.
