20050919 report

Pointing & Focus checks for August 2005

Pointing
The plots below show the pointing data for, respectively, RxA & RxB, restricted to the period after 16 August, when the VAX mwtsrv was replaced (and the earlier data lost):

For RxA, there seems to be a trend of the elevation residual with elevation (centre panel), while for RxB it is the azimuth residuals that show deviations at high elevations.

Thermal - i.e. analyses of the elevation residuals as functions of Receiver and antenna leg temperatures:

FE No.of data fit Temp range
  -- ---------- ---------------------------- -----------
   A 143 del = (-1.60 +- 0.39)*T_diff -0.8 to +1.8
                      = (-0.42 +- 0.09)*T_mean(**) 4 to 16

   B 271 del = (+1.37 +- 0.26)*T_diff -0.8 to +1.6
                      = (-0.02 +- 0.06)*T_mean(**) 6 to 16

A confusing set of results, with no clear trends on which to base any adjustments.

Focus

FE axis No.obs. mean s.d. Notes ('significant' trends)
                           (mm) (mm)
    ----- ---- ------- ------- ------ -----------------------------
     RxA Z 44 +0.11 0.08
            X 32 -0.18 0.23
            Y 24 -0.00 0.13

     RxB Z 65 +0.09 0.10
            X 47 +0.14 0.24
            Y 45 +0.02 0.13

There are no trends of any focus residuals with elevation or temperature (range 4-16 degC for RxA, 6-16 for RxB).
