20060914 report

Pointing quality update

Serendipitous pointing during the 10 nights since the last report on 05 Sep are reported. Instead of (daz, del) and their errors the results of fitting the TPOINT parameters CA and IE and their errors (dS,dZ) are quoted:

UT dates Rx No. of points CA dS IE dZ Notes
   ----------- -- ------------- ----------- ----------- -----
   20060905-14 A 44 +0.6 +- 1.5 -2.4 +- 4.0
                 B 41 +31.6 +- 1.7 +32.2 +- 3.7

(CA,IE) are to be compared with the current collimations for RxA and RxB of (0,0) and (30.6,-28.0), respectively. Also noted is the large-ish spread dZ: perhaps elevation pointing has been affected by the distinctly poorer (wetter) weather in the past 10 days, or (20060921) it reflects daily changes in collimation (to be investigated soon).

The RxA & RxB data are show below :

There are possible trends in the residuals: dZ -vs- Z, in particular, although of different slope in the case of A & B. Despite these, the pointing model and the collimation files for both receivers (e.g. initalise_rxb.ent) are left unchanged. The situation will be further monitored.
