20061114 report

CW inclinometry too noisy to use

SCUBA-2 preparatory work in the next week or so requires the removal of one (?) of the basement inclinometers. Hence inclinometry (CW only) was performed expeditiously as follows:

Datasets El Dirn HST mean leg temperatures Humidity
                          start start middle end %
  ( 20061104 89 cw 05:18 - - -
    20061104 89 ccw ~08:00 - - - )
    20061114 89 cw 05:30 5.6 5.1 4.3

Data is recorded from the 3 active inclinometers only: there is no strain gauge data, for instance.

  • Preliminary inspection of the data showed increased noise in TY, as illustrated by the difference plots below:

Normal noise levels in the difference between two sets of TY data (left) are 7.5mV, whereas the difference between the lastest two TY data sets (right) has noise (mostly originating from the new data) of 22mV. A section of the TY difference data is shown below:

It might be fruitful to perform a Fourier analysis on these data, although one might suspect the elevation servo as the source of the problem given recent behaviour (see fault [20061024.002]). (This problem reported as [20061115.006]).

  • The differences between the (CW) model derived from these new data and the previous model of 01 Nov are shown below :

There is little systematic change in the track model, but the new data are too noisy to use.
