20090525 report

CW/CCW inclinometry updated

25 May 2009

A full cw/ccw inclinometry run was performed on May 25th. The followed hard on the heels of the previous run on the 19th but this was deemed necessary to check the settling motion of the telescope in its new position.

Datasets El Dirn HST mean leg temperatures Humidity

The new data are recorded from the 3 active inclinometers and one of the two strain gauge channels.

  • The differences between the (CW) model derived from this run and the previous run (19th May) are shown below.

  • The resulting rms scatters in the differences in (F1,F2,F3) for the left hand plot are (0.31", 0.22", 0.94"). The slightly high value for F3 comes from the removal of the spike at az ~10° seen in the 20090520 model. These values are compared to (2.24", 1.31", 0.82") for the difference between this model and the 'spikey' one on the 15th.

  • The CW-CCW profile is normal, and is used to generate a hybrid track model which was installed on the 25th May at ~17:30.

    Strain Data
Following the trend of falling loads on the all the wheels leading to wheel 4 lifting off the track a closer eye is being kept on the strain data and inclinometry will now be performed once a week instead of bi-weekly. The loads remain relatively stable following the central bearing adjustment (see strain gauge data) but this must be monitored regularly.
