970516 report

Inclinometry on the evening of 970515

imc & jac

Summary : CW inclinometry following the welding of track joint 8/9.

Inclinometry started at 21:00 - mean temperature of antenna legs 4.1C, falling to 2.2C at end => an average of 3.2C.

Changes by as much as 5" are seen, principally at azimuths 69, 249 and 346, where the wheels 1, 3 and 2 traverse the joint 8/9. A new track model was created and installed. The difference between this model and the previous one of 970422 is shown here . The interpretation is similar to that following the 970417 work.

Pointing with RxA2 followed. 15 data logged in about 1.5 hours, rms residuals in (daz, del) = (1.7",2.9"). The elevation data were affected by a strong cooling of the telescope once the doors and roof were opened, and trends of del -vs- (Tf-Tb) and -vs- 0.5*(Tf+Tb) showed that an rms residual in del of 2.2" was perhaps more representative of the pointing. The atmosphere was fairly unstable and these figures reflect that. There is no reason to change the 7-parameter pointing model on the basis of these data.
