970815 report

Monitoring of the central bearing problem

SCUBA tracking data was taken on 970815 of Mars traversing azimuth 240, where central bearing problems are expected to occur. Mars was followed from (az,el) = (232,41) to (245,25) and the delta-azimuth -vs- azimuth data is plotted below :

A peak-to-peak excursion of 8.8" is seen (elevation = 32 at az=240), implying a magnitude at the horizon of 10.4", essentially in agreement with all previous measures, and the width and position of the effect appear unchanged also.

Thanks to Ed and Gerald for getting this data.
