970910 report
Confirmation of track model of 970819.
Richard Prestage described recently the actions following the central
bearing load adjustment of 970819; viz, the inclinometry and reduction
thereof, and the installation of the resulting track model.
I present below a plot showing the difference between this
model and the previous one :
Richard's concerns about the large (5") excursions in this plot
may abate when this plot is compared with a similar plot showing the
change in the model following the central bearing adjustment of 960401
(which is the most recent c.b. load adjustment of which I am aware) :
The differences have a different functional form but were
presumably just as worrying at that time as the new ones might be now.
I shall endeavour to obtain another set of inclinometry to confirm the
data of 970819.
970914
Ed Lundin acquires the requisite followup inclinometry.
The difference between the model resulting from this new data and that
of 970819 is shown :
The excursions are much less than those above, (1-2") maybe, and are
probably a result of a difference in temperature : the mean leg
temperature during the 970819 data was 9.2C (!!) whereas that during the
970914 data was 4.9C - still susprisingly warm, but a lot nearer to
normal nighttime temperatures.
The new track model,
model1-970915.dat has been installed
