990523 report

More CW & CCW Inclinometry - but problematic

SUMMARY
CW & CCW Inclinometry was taken during poor weather 21-23 May 1999, although for various reasons the data are not entirely useable.

Datasets HST start mean leg temperatures Humidity
                               start middle end %
 ( inc990521 02:54 1.8 2.2 2.3 20 )
   inc990522cw1 20:24 21st 6.8 6.3 5.6 50
   inc990522ccw 23:38 21st 5.5 5.0 4.4 55
   inc990522cw2 02:45 4.0 3.5 3.0 55
   inc990523 07:33 2.0 2.2 2.8 55
   inc990523b 12:54 4.0 4.8 5.5 45

Differences between the various clockwise models are shown below :

  • inc990522cw1 was started too early - see the rapid settling still visible in the F3 results
  • inc990522cw2 has extreme noise in the middle - cause unknown at this stage
  • the first run on 990523 seems good - the rms scatters in the (F1,F2,F3) difference 990523-990521 are are, respectively : (0.29", 0.16", 0.47").
  • the second run on 990523 may be showing temperature effects already.
  • A new track model based on the first run on 990523 was installed at 13:00 HST on 19990524.

Symmetry
Only the dataset inc990523 is used to add to the symmetry database, although the 990522 data are used tentativelt to add to the CW-CCW data below.

On this basis, the symmetry remains good (see the plot ).

CW-CCW
The difference between the first cw run on 990522 and the ccw run is shown below :

Apart from the initial settling problem, this looks very similar to the last CW-CCW taken, viz on 990516. The difference between these two CW-CCW differences is shown below :

We add the CCW data to the database started on 990512 ,

    inc990521 0.66 1.49
    inc990522cw1 0.91: 1.52

    inc990522cw2 0.67 1.55
    inc990523 0.74 1.49

The CCW symmetry is always worse than the CW, but only marginally so.
