Pointing Catalog - Overview
Pointing Catalog - Overview
The JCMT pointing catalog can be found at the telescope in /observe/imc/point.cat    (click here for the full document)
The catalog is laid out in the following order:
CONTINUUM POINTING SOURCES
BLAZARS I - most of those in the previous catalog
BLAZARS II - new from the ICRF lists
BLAZARS III - bright (>0.3Jy), northern detections from m04bu23 (Ian Browne)
COMPACT HII regions, AGB stars, PMS stars
Spectral-line 5-point sources also bright enough for continuum work
SPECTRAL LINE CALIBRATORS
SPECTRAL LINE FIVEPOINT SOURCES
The continuum pointing sources will become relevant with the operation of SCUBA2. For spectral line point sources, the catalog has previously relied on Loup positions (Loup et al. 1993). The coordinates presented by Loup et al. (1993) are not determined from a single source of data but are derived from assessment of a number of various determinations. The authors assign an positional accuracy code to their sources which is used to group the sources in the pointing catalog: L1 = approx. 1", L2 = 1 - 5", L3 = worse than 5". The quality of the Loup positions has been previously examined (see here). Subsequent updates have improved the positions of the sources where other data has been available (i.e Hipparcos & Tycho). Each source in the catalog is coded so the user can readily identify the source of the coordinates used.
