Pointing Data Format in the old TCS
Pointing Data Format in the old TCS
The
logger task
produces a file called pointing.log in the default directory,
recording a multitude of telescope parameters each time the log
command is issued. This file is processed initially using

jcmt_seed:[pointing]pointextract.com
An example of the resulting pointing file, with a name like

pt991019_07.dat
is shown
here .
The first line is the date, and observations occupy pairs of subsequent
lines. The parameters displayed are as follows :
The first 8 on the first data line ( see
the example ),
and the parameters they represent are :
143.35 81.88 -2.7 -4.5 07 59 02.1 IRC+10216
az el daz del hh mm ss.s source
The remaining entries on the first line are
RXB RB 9.75 13.51 625. 1.3 63.1 0.1600 -0.3800
F.E. coords temp Hum press ? ? SMU_X SMU_Y
The first entries on the second line are
-0.2686 FIVEPOINT @RXB 20896 -4018
SMU-Z obs.type TMU posn. TMU-X TMU-Y
and the last part of the 2nd line is
-2.7 -4.7 m99bn14 KKP
uaz uel projid TSS
The abbreviations and implicit units are as follows :
- az - azimuth - degrees
- coords - coordinate system for source (RJ = J2000 etc)
- daz - total azimuth servo error - arcseconds
- del - total elevation servo error - arcseconds
- el -elevation - degrees
- F.E. - Front End ( = receiver)
- hh - hours of Hawaiian Standard Time
- hum - humidity - %
- mm - minutes of Hawaiian Standard Time
- obs type - observation type (FIVEPOINT, FOCUS etc)
- press - pressure - millibar
- projid - observation project identification (eg m99bu12)
- SMU_X - X-axis (up-down) position of Secondary Mirror Unit - mm
- SMU_Y - Y-axis (left-right) position of Secondary Mirror Unit - mm
- SMU_Z - Z-axis (in-out) position of Secondary Mirror Unit - mm
- ss.s - seconds of Hawaiian Standard Time
- temp - temperature - degrees C
- TMU posn. - Tertiary Mirror Unit position description
- TMU_X - X-axis position of Tertiary Mirror Unit - mm
- TMU_Y - Y-axis position of Tertiary Mirror Unit - mm
- TSS - Telescope Support Specialist identification
- uaz - user-defined azimuth offset - arcseconds
- uel - user-defined elevation offset - arcseconds
FIT9 data may be converted into TPOINT
input version 4 using /home/imc/pointing/tpoint/poi2tpoint.exe.
