Instructions for doing remote inclinometry

Instructions for doing remote inclinometry

These are special instructions in addition to those for 'normal' inclinometry, and should be read in conjunction with the protocols for doing remote activities at JCMT.

NB : The telescope drives should be left ON, but the summit software run DOWN.

  1. It is vitally important for the safety of anyone who may be in the JCMT building that you read again the protocols for doing remote inclinometry and ensure compliance. Thank you.

  2. On your unix machine in Hilo, open up 3 xterms - the equivalent of the TCS NBS & OPS Decterms

  3. On TCS do
    • xhost +pueo.jcmt
    • rlogin -l operator pueo.jcmt and give password
    • cleanup
    • xdisplay
    • tcs : the PTCS User Interface then opens

  4. On NBS do
    • xhost +mwttel.jcmt
    • rlogin -l operator mwttel.jcmt
    • nbs_load
    • Wait for the message "Please continue with TCS loading" before proceeding to next step.

  5. On OPS do
    • xhost +mwttel.jcmt
    • rlogin -l operator mwttel.jcmt
    • $ o inc etc

The telescope position is displayed on the PTCS UI Should the antenna need commands click Options on that GUI and select Tcl Commands. A window opens into which commands may be typed. eg : obey TEL ABORT to stop telescope motion

  6. Perform inclinometry as described on web page.

  7. Read again the protocols for doing remote inclinometry and end the session safely. Thank you.

  8. Use incline_centre to move telescope out of 5th quadrant.

  9. Shutdown software as described on web page.
