RMS values derived from RxH3 maps

RMS values derived from RxH3 maps

The following table lists all results from RxH3 maps, made since December 2001. Only results from maps in not adverse weather conditions are used. Maps in bad weather show stripes and an increased rms. Also not shown are maps where some panels were moved out for tests.
Maps made at 160 GHz where the accuracy of the measurements is better (and the rms generally lower by 1.3 micron) are indicated in red.
Some more information about the maps (tau_cso etc) is given here.

Some numbers for the surface accuracy before 2001 derived from RxH2.

The expected error budget is at this moment:
Panels 18 micron (random 12 micron; systematic 13 micron)
Backing structure 13 micron
Measuring 8 micron
Setting 1 micron
Others 7 micron
Total 24.6 micron
(from "Surface Upgrade Design Study, phase 2", October 1996)
The numbers are to be confirmed from a detailed analysis of the maps.

Explanation of the table (see also here):
Freq frequency (80 or 160 GHz)
n number of frequencies observed
A rms of dish
B rms with 10 dB edge taper (that of most receivers in the telescope)
C ruze rms 650 GHz
D ruze rms 900 GHz
E adjuster rms (equivalent to RxH2 rms values). Click on number to see moves as a function of position on the dish.
F The same, omitting non-functional adjusters (derived from file with moves in steps which underestimates this rms by about 1 micron)

Maps with *** in the last column were made between 6h00 and 20h00 HST when the rms is expected to be larger.
