Adwin Boogert - Caltech

"Evolution of Interstellar Ices"

ABSTRACT: "A significant amount of the molecules in dense molecular clouds is locked up in icy mantles around dust grains. I will discuss the general inventory of ices, found in the 2-45 um spectra obtained with the ISO satellite. The discussion will focus on observations of the CO2 molecule around a sample of protostars. Large variations in ice abundances, degrees of crystallization, and gas phase characteristics show the significance of thermal processing. This possibly evolutionary effect appears to be different in high and low mass protostars. "
