"Combining Balloon-borne and Ground-based Submillimetre Surveys"

ABSTRACT: "The recent NASA funding of a balloon-borne large aperture submillimetre telescope (BLAST) will provide ground-based submillimetre and millimetre telescopes (CSO, JCMT, SEST, IRAM, LMT, GBT) with sensitive submillimetre data at 200-750um. BLAST will conduct large-area extragalactic and galactic surveys during a North American test-flight in June 2002 and a series of long duration (10-day) flights over Antarctica and Alaska, Canada, Scandanevia and Russia from 2003 onwards. I will briefly discuss the BLAST telescope, instrumentation and science goals, concentration on how these data will complement the current and future submm/mm ground-based observations."
