"Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Young Stellar Objects and their Outflows"

ABSTRACT: "Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Young Stellar Objects and their Outflows"

Spectroscopic data was obtained on Young Stellar Objects (YSO) and their outflows at the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) using the cooled grating spectrometer (CGS4). The data were obtained during two observing runs, in 1998 and 1999. Nine objects were observed and include AS353A, B5-IRS1, GGD27, HH34-IRS, HH379-IRS, HH72-IRS, L1551-IRS5, SVS13 and YSO 04239. All objects were observed in H2 1-0S(1) (2.1218334 microns in a vacuum) and in HI Br_gamma (2.166167 microns in a vacuum). From this set of data, H2 postion-velocity plots were created for each object, and Br_gamma and H2 spectra were obtained towards the source of each outflow. This study represents the first high-resolution infrared observations taken very near to the driving source, and will lead to a better understanding of the physical processes behind star formation.
