"Infrared Observations of supernova SN1987A in
the LMC"
ABSTRACT: "The outburst of supernova SN1987A in the LMC (Feb 23, 1987)
sparked an intensity of observational and theoretical activity rarely before
experienced in astronomy. Many discoveries and advances have come, and
are still coming, from the study of this supernova, in particular about
core-collapse supernovae and explosive nucleosynthesis. The specific topics
that I intend to discuss include: past and present IR and submillimeter
observations at ESO and CTIO, and their use for the determination of the
mass of radioactive 56Co; theoretical modelling of the evolution of the
supernova; and observations and modelling of the formation of dust in the
supernova debris. I will also report on the first observations of the recently
forming remnant, and its interaction with the CS environment."
