ABSTRACT: "The arrival of the WFCAM instrument on UKIRT in 2002 will mark a dramatic change in UKIRT operations. A consortium of UK and JAC astronomers have put forward a proposal to the UKIRT Board to perform a suite of surveys (The UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey or UKIDSS) over 5 years. I will outline the science cases for each survey and discuss the status of the proposal."
