"Deep Impact at the JCMT"

ABSTRACT:

    "Be not afraid of greatness:
Some are born great, some achieve greatness,
and some have greatness thrust upon them."
-- Act II, Scene V - Twelfth Night
      Shakespeare

On July 3rd HST, NASA is thrusting a comet called 9P/Tempel 1 into the limelight. A small satellite will impact it and all types of telescopes will study the results. Why? And what will the gaggle of astronomers at the JCMT be doing? (Watching Jim Hoge do all the work is the short answer...) I hope to give everyone at the JAC a sense of why the astronomers are so excited about what might happen. Come one, come all.
