"James Clerk Maxwell: The Man who Changed Everything"

ABSTRACT: June 13 marks the 175th anniversary of the birth of James Clerk Maxwell, certainly one of the most influential scientists of the 19th century, and quite possibly one of the greatest scientists who ever lived. Unlike Newton and Einstein, however, with whom he quite rightly ranks, Maxwell is nearly unknown outside of the scientific community. I will spin a brief tale of his life and times, and try to convey some of the importance of his discoveries in physics, astronomy, engineering, colour vision, etc. etc. etc., and how he literally changed everything.
