"Ly-alpha blobs in the early universe"

ABSTRACT: Large Ly-alpha nebulae, called Ly-alpha "blobs", are thought to be mysterious objects associated with the early universe. These Ly-alpha blobs may reveal several important physical processes in galaxy formation: gas accretion, photoionization by massive stars, and galactic-scale winds. I will present our recent observational results on Ly-alpha blobs obtained with several telescopes from Mauna Kea: Subaru, JCMT, Keck, and SMA.
