"Submillimetre site-testing at Dome A, Antarctica"

ABSTRACT: Dome A, the highest point on the Antarctic plateau, may have the best submm/THz observing conditions in the world. The Australian/Chinese PLATO is a fully-autonomous site-testing and astrophysical observatory which has been operating at Dome A for about 6 months to characterise the site. One of PLATO's instruments is preHEAT, a submm tipper/telescope to measure the opacity and survey in 13CO 6-5. I'll show some preliminary results, talk about the potential of Dome A and about the kinds of science that would benefit most from such a location.
