"Interstellar medium to main sequence star: the last pieces of the jigsaw"

ABSTRACT: "The current situation is described regarding our knowledge of the evolutionary processes which lead from a molecular cloud in the interstellar medium to a main sequence single star of approximately solar mass. The part which will played by new instrumentation, such as SCUBA and ISO, in unravelling this mystery are outlined, and the latest results from SCUBA and ISO are shown and interpreted. Finally, the role which supercomputers are poised to play is described, and early results from a new turbulent MHD model, run on the Edinburgh Parallel Computer Centre's Cray T3D supercomputer, are shown."
