Andy Longmore - ROE

"Directions in Adaptive Optics, or How Many Moving Mirrors do we Need?" ABSTRACT: "Astronomical Adaptive Optics has now reached sufficient maturity that scientific papers of genuine worth and diversity (as opposed to 'just another boring binary' - I mean 'just look at those diffraction rings') are reaching the mainstream literature. The next questions are 'How many AO systems does the UK need, where, with what instruments and then, what should be its long term devlopment route to laser beacons (if any) and short-wavelength AO? The talk will compare expectations for various systems and discuss new ideas related to performance with lasers."
