"H3+ in Interstellar Space"

ABSTRACT: "I will discuss the historical development of the understanding of the triatomic molecular ion H3+. I will then show the discoveries (at UKIRT) of H3+ in both dense and (very recently) diffuse clouds in the interstellar medium and then compare the observations with predictions, pointing out the particular value of H3+ for understanding the physical processes in and the properties of interstellar clouds. "
