Imaging: Template Sequences

UIST logo

UIST observing programmes are set up under the UIST ORAC-OMP ORACOT . Your starting point will be the template sequences in the UIST library which contains the sequences described below.

UIST Non-Thermal Imaging Template MSBs

MSB Contents Description DR Recipes Used
5 Point Jitter Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by one exposure at each of 5 telescope positions. Useful for brighter point sources. BRIGHT_POINT_SOURCE
JITTER_SELF_FLAT
9 Point Jitter Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by one exposure at each of 9 telescope positions. Useful for fainter point sources. JITTER_SELF_FLAT
N-colour Jitter Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by a jitter set through multiple filters using the imaging iterator. JITTER_SELF_FLAT_NCOLOUR
Quadrant Jitter Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by one exposure at 4 telescope positions, one in each quadrant. Useful for extended sources of size less than one quad, or 60" for the 0.12 camera . QUADRANT_JITTER
Extended 3x3 Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by one exposure at 19 telescope positions, starting and ending at a sky offset. Useful for mapping extended sources smaller than about 2 arcminutes. EXTENDED_3x3
Extended 5x5 Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by one exposure at 51 telescope positions, starting and ending at a sky offset. Useful for mapping extended sources smaller than about 3 arcminutes. EXTENDED_5x5

UIST Thermal Imaging Template MSBs

MSB Contents Description DR Recipes Used
L' 0.12"/pix Nod4 Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by one exposure at each of 4 telescope positions. Useful for brighter point sources. Note exposure set by camera and filter and should not be changed. NOD_SELF_FLAT_NO_MASK
L' 0.12"/pix Nod8 Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by one exposure at each of 8 telescope positions, diagonally placed on the array to avoid the lower-QE lower right quadrant. Useful for fainter point sources. Note exposure set by camera and filter and should not be changed. NOD_SELF_FLAT_NO_MASK
L' 0.06"/pix Nod8 Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Same as above but with exposure and offsets scaled for the smaller pixels camera. NOD_SELF_FLAT_NO_MASK
M' 0.12"/pix Nod8 Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Observations consist of a dark followed by one exposure at each of 8 telescope positions, diagonally placed on the array to avoid the lower-QE lower right quadrant. Useful for fainter point sources. Note exposure set by camera and filter and should not be changed. NOD_SELF_FLAT_NO_MASK
M' 0.06"/pix Nod8 Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Same as above but with exposure and offsets scaled for the smaller pixels camera. NOD_SELF_FLAT_NO_MASK
Sky nod Target component
UIST component
DR component
Observe sequence
Alternate nods to sky for an extended target with sky subtraction - suitable for thermal imaging NOD_SKY_FLAT_THERMAL
