A list of items to check while observing programmes from the queue. At
the end we list some minimum standards that are expected of you
as a queue observer.
All modes
read the observer notes !
Imaging
sky counts (on quick look and warnings in the DR)
image FWHM - agrees with prediction from autofocus
image ellipticity (on the quick look and in DR)
standard and target not saturated (don't assume this won't change)
no persistent images near source (flush if not)
Spectroscopy
wavelength range correct (in DR gaia)
flat not saturated
arc has lines in it
standard and target not saturated
standard has s/n well in excess of the requirement on the target
IFU spectroscopy
wavelength range correct
standard star centred ok and has s/n well in excess of
requirement on the target
flat not saturated
arc has lines in it
slice registration works ok in DR
UKIDSS
Seeing contstraints are correctly set in the QT
pipeline QC parameters remain in range for current project
Monitoring
At minimum you should expect to be doing the following:
Check instrument parameters occasionally (at start of an MSB or
when parameters can be expected to have changed)
For long MSBs or UKIDSS observing, check health of data taking
every ten mimnutes at least (use quick look display and/or pipelines)
If problems found, use the feedback system to report to project
PIs.
Check health of data reduction pipeline perioodically (ten minute
intervals minimum).
