Herbig-Haro 1 with UFTI

Results from ORAC commissioning with UFTI

A true-colour image of the Herbig-Haro bow shock HH 1. The red and green channels show line emission from molecular hydrogen (2.122 microns) and Fe+ (1.644 microns); the blue channel shows continuum emission associated with nearby stars and nebulosity. The high-excitation Fe+ features contrast spectacularly against the lower-excitation molecular shock regions in this protostellar flow. The figure illustrates the sort of image quality (in this case ~0.6") and standard of on-line data reduction one can routinely expect from UKIRT, UFTI and the ORAC acquisition/reduction software available at the telescope.
