A Message from the Director of JAC
Gary Davis
It is my pleasure to announce to the UKIRT community that Andy Adamson has
been given a new job title: "Associate Director, UKIRT". This name is more
reflective of the responsibilities of Andy's position than was his
previous and rather cumbersome title, "Head of Operations / Science
Director, UKIRT". Congratulations Andy.
Readers of this newsletter may be unaware of the management arrangements
for UKIRT. As Director of the Joint Astronomy Centre, I have overall
responsibility for both UKIRT and the JCMT. I report to the Boards of both
telescopes, and I deal with PPARC on behalf of both telescopes. Thus
whilst there is no person with the title of Director of UKIRT, I fulfil
the functions normally associated with such a position. Andy, as Associate
Director, is in charge of day-to-day operations and a variety of other
areas, and we work closely together to ensure that UKIRT continues to meet
the high standards it has set for itself over its long and remarkable
history.
