And finally...

** Figure **

Could it be UKIRT's answer to the Backstreet Boys? Alas - no. In actual facts its UKIRT's finest: the TSS team (from left to right): Watson Varricattu, Tim Carroll, (John Davies - Support Scientist - in his lucky observing trousers), Olga Kuhn and Thor Wold. This rare conjunction (as far as we know, the entire TSS group has never before been seen together at the summit) was for safety training with the M.K. Emergency Evacuation Vehicle, as part of JAC's ongoing safety programme.

** Figure **

The demand for tables at H.P. from astronomers and tourists alike forces the queue out into the car park. Seen here (from left to right) are Paul Hirst, Watson Varricattu, Frossie Economou, Tom Kerr, Sandy Leggett, Russell Kackley, and (in green) Andy Adamson.

The Back Page

UFTI snaps another high-mass star forming region.

** Figure **

Perhaps not the most appetising colour-scheme! The red, green and blue channels of this "true-colour" image were assigned to H2, [FeII] amd K-band continuum filters respectively, the aim being to search for signs of dynamic star formation activity via these hot-gas tracers. The fetching green shade results from the more efficient scattering of the shorter-wavelength (H-band) emission.
