6. UKIRT Upgrades

6.5. Dome Ventilation System

The Dome Ventilation System (DVS) comprises sixteen apertures spaced around the periphery of the dome. Each is equipped with a weatherproof roller door and sets of louvres for directing inward airflows. The apertures were installed during 1996, beginning with a prototype as ``proof of concept'' installed in February under gruelling winter conditions and continuing in an arduous campaign though much of the year. The apertures now await installation of their controls.7 The final control system will allow remote selection of settings of open, 1/3 closed, 2/3 closed and fully shut, for all sixteen apertures.
