6. UKIRT Upgrades

6.7. Dome Floor Insulation

The final element of the Upgrades Programme, which has not progressed beyond the planning stage as yet, is the project to insulate the dome floor. This is needed to reduce the warming of the dome air at night by the heat absorbed by the concrete floor during the day. At present a detailed proposal exists to equip the dome with a false-floor in the form of a layer of hard isocyanurate foam, reinforced with heavy-duty fibre-board and surfaced with resistant rubber tiles. Procurement and installation are expected to take place in 1998.
