UKIRT PATT time continued to be oversubscribed. The ratio of the
total number of nights requested to the number of nights allocated was
3.7 in 98A and 2.3 in 98B. The reduction in the number of nights
requested in 98B was an anomaly, as the oversubscription factor increased
the following year. The drop may have been due to a request from the
Time Allocation Group for research groups not to submit multiple proposals,
or, as other facilities experienced a similar decrease, it may have reflected
the high productivity of the el Niño winter of 97B.
In the following list of successful applications only the
principal investigator is given, although in nearly every case the
projects are collaborative efforts. The grouping by instrument and
scientific category of the telescope time awarded was as follows.

given equal weight in the first table.
