THE UNITED KINGDOM INFRARED TELESCOPE
ANNUAL REPORT
2001-2002

3.5. Computing

In semester 01A the Observatory Management Project (OMP) had a successful Critical Design Review. The OMP was successfully commissioned in March 2002 with the UKIRT Service programme providing a thorough test of the design elements common to both UKIRT and JCMT versions of the software. These include the database structures, the server access mechanisms, the query tool and the feedback system. The general impression in terms of usability, speed and reliability was favourable. The OMP was fully commissioned in October 2002. The infrastructure was thus in place for flexible scheduling to begin in 03A.

The telescope control system was upgraded as described earlier and all machines that display to the control room at the summit were upgraded, apart from the data acquisition machine. This last machine remains a Solaris-based system as the acquisition software has not yet been sufficiently tested under the Linux operating system. Acquisition and data reduction software for the new instruments MICHELLE and UIST were developed in 2001 and 2002.
