2.
Members of Council, with the exception of PPARC employees, civil servants and
full-time employees of other Research Councils or Government-funded
organisations, are entitled to receive an honorarium provided that the
conditions of their main employment allow them to do so.
3.
Honoraria are paid quarterly, in arrears. The current annual rates are set out
in the handbook "Essential Information for Members of Council and Advisory
Bodies" copies of which are available from Corporate Affairs Division,
Swindon Office. The text may also be viewed on PPARC’s
main web site.
4.
Occasionally Members of Council will be granted an enhanced honoraria at the
discretion of the Executive. This occurs as a recognition of the extra workload
undertaken when asked to chair an advisory body to Council.
5.
Council members are not eligible to receive a daily fee for attendance at
meetings related to their role as Council members although they may be paid a
fee for ad hoc meetings attended in an unrelated advisory capacity.
6.
Council Members will be reimbursed their actual reasonable expenses incurred in
attending Council meetings or other PPARC business in accordance with the rules
and allowances set out in the handbook "Essential Information for Members
of Council and Advisory Bodies".
7.
Members of Council advisory bodies, with the exception of PPARC employees, civil
servants and full-time employees of other Research Councils and
Government-funded organisations, may be eligible to receive an attendance fee.
In general, anyone who receives a full-time salary from the public purse will be
ineligible to receive an attendance fee. However, employees of certain public
bodies may receive a fee provided that the conditions of their employment allow
them to do so. Queries concerning eligibility should be referred to Propriety
and Regularity Section, PPARC Finance Division, Swindon Office (jill.drinkwater@pparc.ac.uk).
9.
Fees are payable for attendance at meetings and other PPARC business approved by
the Executive. The amount of the fee payable in respect of a meeting is based on
the number of days attendance required. No additional payment is made in respect
of preparatory work or follow-up action which may be required.
10.
Committee Members will be reimbursed their actual reasonable expenses incurred
in attending meetings or other PPARC business in accordance with rules and
allowances set out in the Members handbook "Essential Information for
Members of Council and Advisory Bodies".
12.
Committee Secretaries should send authorised fees forms directly to Payments
Group, Finance Division, Swindon Office, for processing. Travel and subsistence
reimbursement claims should be endorsed by the appropriate Committee Secretary
and sent to Travel Section, Swindon Office, where the claims will be checked to
ensure the amounts claimed are within the appropriate allowances. Travel Section
will pass the claims to Payments Group to be actioned. Payments are made
directly into members' bank accounts using BACS.
