Driving Directions

Kona International Airport
to Hale Pohaku

  • Take the Airport Exit Road until you reach the traffic light at Highway 19 (aka the Queen Kaahumanu Highway).

  • Turn right onto Highway 19; continue for 3.1 miles.

  • Turn left onto Hina Lani Street; continue for 3.6 miles.
(You could turn left on Kaiminani Drive to get to the Hawaii Belt Road, but we do not recommend using Kaiminani Drive because you would be forced to take a left turn onto the Hawaii Belt Road without the benefit of a traffic light.)

  • Turn left onto the Hawaii Belt Road (aka Mamalahoa Highway); continue for 27 miles.

  • Turn right onto Saddle Road; continue for 25.7 miles

  • Turn left onto the Mauna Kea Observatories Access Road; continue for 6.4 miles.

  • Hale Pohaku will be on your right, just past the Visitors Center.  Turn right into the driveway and park in any available space in the front or side parking lots.

Please call us at 808.961.3756 for further directions or assistance.
