Recycling
Recycling at the JAC, Hale Pohaku, JCMT, and UKIRT
Here are some some Environmental, cultural and sightseeing guidelines for JAC staff and visitors to the Joint Astronomy Centre, and the JCMT or UKIRT.
It is recommended to recycle as much as possible. Below is a list of places to return your glass, plastic, cans, paper, cardboard, or batteries:
JAC
- HI5 glass and plastic bottles: To the left of the vending machine outside the Staff Lounge.
- HI5 aluminum cans: To the right of the vending machine outside the Staff Lounge.
- Paper: Into bin in the Xerox room, or in blue mixed paper recycling bins at different places in the building.
- Cardboard: Into bin in the Xerox room (flatten cardboard first).
- Plastic: Clean #1, #2, and #5 plastic containers can be put into a bin in the Staff Lounge (to the left of the drinking water container).
- Batteries: In boxes in the Xerox Room and in the Phase 2 Archive Room.
Hale Pohaku
JCMT
- HI5 bottles (glass, plastic) and cans: In the bin on the Observing Floor near the Control Room, or outside the Crew Room.
- Paper: In a cardboard box on a shelf in the Control Room, or in a blue mixed
paper recycling bin in the Control Room.
- Plastic: Clean plastic bags used to take your night lunch up from HP can be put in the cupboard above the refrigerator.
- Batteries: In a box in the Control Room.
UKIRT
- HI5 bottles (glass, plastic) and cans: In bins in the Crew Room and in the Control Room.
- Paper: In a blue mixed paper recycling bin in the Control Room.
- Batteries: In a box in the Control Room.
