Change the wording in
these sections for conciseness:
From:
- Eye Examinations
VDT users will be provided with eye tests and with a provision for any
required eye wear under the following rules.
- When taking an eye test,
VDT users shall take a copy of the VDT eye wear form (Addendum 7) for the eye examiner to complete.
This will indicate whether corrective eye wear is needed or not. VDT
users may claim (against a receipt) for any costs not covered by their
insurance with prior approval from the Human Resources Manager.
- If the eye examiner
indicates on the form new corrective eye wear is required for VDT use
then VDT users may claim an allowance towards the cost of new
corrective eye wear.
- Staff wishing to claim
these allowances shall contact the HR Manager before any expenses are
incurred.

A.7.
(new g.)
|
Add new - under 7. Pressure Regulators and Needle Valves section g (new
regulator inspection/replacement policy)
- All regulators that have
been in service for greater than 10 years shall be disposed of and
replaced with a new one. Regulators that are 5-10 years old shall be
reconditioned or replaced dependent on the cost. Regulators that are
less than 5 years old and are used with corrosive and acid gases shall
be reconditioned yearly.
In non-corrosive
applications, base the decision on use and inspections as outlined
below:
·
Gauges should read zero
when gases are drained from the regulator. If not, they should be
replaced.
·
Gas leaking out of the
outlet when the regulator is in the closed position is an indication of
a seat failure, and the regulator should be reconditioned or replaced.
·
At a given delivery
pressure with the cylinder valve open and the outlet valve closed, you
should not see a rise in pressure in a 5-10 minute time period.
If you do, the regulator should be reconditioned or replaced.
- Check the regulator for
leaks with each cylinder change, or at least on a monthly basis. If
leakage occurs around the adjusting knob or handle, the diaphragm could
be damaged or contaminated and the regulator should be reconditioned or
replaced.

Add note regarding
supplemental oxygen:
There are two kinds of
medical oxygen. One kind is intended for use in emergencies only and is
fitted with a fixed flow regulator. It may be administered without EMS advice. The tanks are
not particularly large and will not last for very long (up to 30
minutes). The second kind is intended for therapeutic use and is fitted
with a variable flow regulator - this will last a long time but can
only be used under the guidance of a medical professional such as the EMS staff. Portable
supplemental oxygen (Helios, Oxymatic) units are classified as
therapeutic oxygen, thus not allowed at JAC facilities. At HP, JCMT
and UKIRT there are both types; the Emergency Evacuation Vehicle (EEV)
has only the variable flow kind.
